Calicut going to get yet another landmark in the name of His Highness Zamorin named Zamorin Tower along with a garden dedicated to the great Commander of Zamorin's Navy , Kunjali Marikar. The proposal is to convert 2.5 acers of land owned by revenue department near Manachira into a remarkable signature tower with landscaped open space in the surroundings with the potential to become tourism hub of Malabar. The project will have a subway from Mananchira to the garden. The height of the tower will be 62 m, with steps and lift to reach the view point. The bottom oval hall can be used as a sociological museum of Malabar and the cost of the project is only Rs 3.5 crore.

Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, in association with Usha school of Athletics and District Sports Council proudly present “Federal Bank Calicut Mini Marathon 2011”- the only mini marathon of the city.The marathon will see thousands running shoulder to shoulder on the 6th of February 2011. We will start with this meaningful thought by Richard Whatley, yes the morning hours are so precious and for a few citizens of Calicut like me the life starts by 5.30 AM, while majority of them will be still enjoying their dreams. People are becoming more health conscious these days and number of them coming out for activities in the early morning hours like Jogging, walk and yoga are increasing day by day.

In calicut, places like Sarovaram, Beach-side Promenade, Mini-bypass road etc are becoming popular places to start an healthy day. I can say in few months time, Mananchira will also re-join this group after renovations undergoing are over. Here i will post a few snaps which i took with my mobile cam today from Sarovaram Biopark.

Cyber Park, Final Render.

Finally Malabar is going to get its share of space in the IT map of kerala, the cyber parks being developed by Kerala IT Mission and ULCCS is going to bring revolution in the industrial development of the sleeping tiger Kozhikode and in general Malabar through the hub of Kozhikode and spokes coming up at Kannur and Kazaragode. Kozhikode does have a lot of advantages for IT development and the most important of it is, its statergic location, all major industrial centers are very near to calicut and very well connected by air, roads, and railways, another one would be the presence of premiere educational institutions like IIM, NIT, etc. The availability of very high level local talent pool also add up on it.

The Cyber Park on completion would directly provide job opportunities for 1500 personnel and to more than 6000 people indirectly. The maiden tower is expected to be completed by 2011. And it would become fully operational by 2025. The development cost of the Cyber Park is pegged at 550 crores. The availability of cheap labour, the presence of trained human resources, access to road-rail connectivity and an international airport will turn Cyber Park into a cynosure of all eyes. The infrastructure development will begin shortly. The facilities like establishing a 110 KV power station, construction of approach roads, sewage plant, rain harvest-water supply system etc will also follow suit. The first tower will come up in 4 lac sq ft area. Of this, 1.5 lacs will get completed in 2011. With that job opportunities for 1500 people will be created directly and for another 6000 indirectly. The first phase of construction will commence in July. A total of 40 lac sq ft area will be completed within 5 years. The same area is expected to be built at U L Cyber Park. The first tower will accommodate Software Development Block, Incubation Centre, Training Centres etc. The total project cost is estimated at 95 crores. An annex in 30000 sq ft will also be built to facilitate small and medium scale companies. The construction will be completed by October 2011.

The satellite centres at Kannur and Kasargode will also have a constructed area measuring 1.5 lacs Sq Ft and will be completed by 2011. Those centres will also have Software Development Block, Incubation Centre and Training Centres. The total project is estimated at 57 Crs. The internationally acclaimed Canon Design International is designing the Cyber Park. A Cyber Park of this kind could have been streamlined in Malabar region at least two decades back.

Arayidathupalam Flyover getting ready!!!

Keeping all the questions unanswered, the newest landmark in Calicut is getting ready and will be inaugrated by this month. The flyover, if works out as planned, is going to revolutionize traffic movement inside Calicut city. Critics still believe that this flyover is not wide enough to handle the heavy traffic on 4 lane Mavoor road, they still believe that, only a 4 lane flyover can solve the traffic problem here!! I personally beileve that, with the rate at which calicut traffic is growing this flyover is inadequate to handle the traffic, when we think about the future of our city. The number of vehicles registered from calicut is one of the highest in whole of kerala and we are not going to see any decline in this growth in the near future, so they could have planned a wider one keeping the future developments in mind!!! its so simple to define this one, i would call it, a Bottle Neck Flyover!!!!!

ULCCS have proved it again!!!!!!!!!! The perspectives of UL Cyber park is out and they have already started working on this project. It is going to be 22 lacks sq/ft of space with an inetial investment of 600 crores on 27 acers of land, the project when complete will provide jobs upto 22000 proffessionals. All these are happening when our government has not yet finalised any thing about the proposed CYBER PARK on the lines of Techno park & Info park. Kochi skyline is always considered as one of the best not only in Kerala but also whole of India, Kochi had highrises right from mid 80's when Choice group built their 17 storied apartment complex there. Calicut also had some cool midrises even during 70's like LIC building which was built in the year 1972, and after that there was many more like Paramount towers etc. which i used to admire with, while i was in school. Then came the apartment culture with Pankaj apartments, which was built in the year 1990. After that there was no turning back for calicut, with rise in the land value, common man started thinking about flats instead of buying land & then built a house there, flats came at half the price, so this made the rise in the number of highrises growing tall inside the city, which is evident from the above picture.

Kochi!!!!!! meet your rival from North, Calicut skies are really becoming denser these days, with the completion of all proposed projects its going to look more good, like the 26 storied Galaxy project etc which is right now under construction. With the upcoming IT Parks and educational institutions Calicut will be in focus in the years to come. Quality infrastructure and housing will make a city livable, Calicut is developing in a better way when you come on to this regard. With all those KSSUDP projects on the way calicut will be a much better place to live in.

Cyberpark Appoints Binu Pazhoor as CEO

The new IT park and center of excellence being developed by the Government of Kerala has appointed Binu Pazhoor as CEO of Cyberpark. As Chief Operating Officer of Cyberpark, Pazhoor will lead initiatives towards the development of the 'cyberparks' planned to be built in the Malabar region -- namely, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasargode. He will be responsible for the development of infrastructure, marketing and promotion of the three parks and the development of other initiatives supporting the implementation and functions of the parks.Pazhoor comes with experience as director in board for the Academy for Excellence, which is a non-profit organization geared towards building an education system that connects children from around the world. Commenting on his role at Cyberpark, Binu Pazhoor said, "...coming from this background, I am looking forward to this challenging task. Also being quite an environmentally conscious person, I intend to bring an eco-friendly state-of-the-art facility with all the modern amenities promoting a greener Kerala preserving the traditions and purity of the state."

Given this scenario the city must be spruced up to vie with other leading cities in the State. The most obvious change must be reflected in the outward appearance. The roadside parks, traffic islands and medians certainly could do with a face lift. The design parameters are in keeping with the traditional framework of the city through a combination of edifices, sculpture etc. in a natural setting with a predominance of flower beds and lush green plants, hedges etc.

Calicut's tallest apartment building and one of the tallest in whole of kerala Ellizuim court has already topped out into calicut sky, the view is incredible and the structure is truly massive and have shown justice to the design, dont know whether the record may stay for long time since, Life style towers 27 storied twin towers with a sky bridge is under construction at karaparamba, but presently the one and only 20 storied ellizium court is NO:1. It may become one among a dozen of 20+ ones which are under various stages of construction. Wish to be there on the top of the building, to view my amazing calicut skyline from the tallest ever built in calicut history.

At last, we have some of our roads getting resurfaced and beautified, for example above is our newly renovated busy railwaystation link road, kudos to ULCCS, for completing the work on time and maintaining the quality of work as they have done it before while constructing highways and bypasses in calicut. Works on arayidathupalam flyover & four laning of mini bypass is on full swing, atlast we calicutites have some hope to drive on some good roads in the near future.

Parvathy Omanakuttan inaugurated the first sale by presenting a bag filled with Westlife products to Westlife partner Soopy Haji .
Housed in a spacious 20,000 sq ft mall, Westlife will be stocked with fashion apparel, cosmetics, footwear, and bridal wear. It will also have an in-house beautician, said Feroz Mohammed, Managing Director.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Resul Pookutty and Parvathy Omanakuttan remarked that the launch of Westlife mall has made international fashion wear available to the people of North Kerala. KADALUNDI BIRD SANCTUARY
Kadalundi bird sanctuary, 19 km from Kozhikode is home to more than a hundred varieties of native birds and over 60 species of migratory birds flock here in large numbers. The sanctuary is also known for a wide variety of Fish, Mussels and Crabs. Birds like Terns, Gulls, Herons, Sandpipers, Whimbrels, and other migratory birds flock the place from the month of November and return only by the end of April. The sanctuary, which is spread over a cluster of islands, covers an area of 3 kms in a scenic area surrounded by hillocks. A hillock, which is 200 m above sea level, provides a splendid view of the river mouth and the sea. The ideal season to visit is from December to April in the early hours of the day.The number of birds in the approximately 2 sq.km area is quite astonishing. The variety is also excellent with terns, gulls, egrets, herons, sandpipers, brahmini kites and cormorants among others. The best time to see this sanctuary in all its glory is from November to April. To see the turtles it is necessary to explore in the forest department’s boat, as one has to move out into the open sea. Due to its location along the coast, the climate is excellent through most of the year. Visits should be avoided during the months of May to July as the area receives torrential rainfall during that time. A day trip from Kozhikode is enough to explore the sanctuary.
The sanctuary seemed to be a favourite location for the wealthier families of the area as we saw an endless row of extremely impressive bungalows bordering it Kadalundi town itself seemed like a small quiet place very typical of towns in this part of the country. It had a couple of small eating joints serving local cuisine. It is advisable to take along a small packed meal while visiting the sanctuary because if you are interested in birds or photography, you’ll hate to waste time walking all the way to the town and back. One would rather even spend the time just watching the fascinating territorial battles of the hundreds of crabs dotting the wall beside the jetty.

CALICUT INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (CIA)

Calicut International Airport, also known as Karipur Airport, is located at Karipur in the Malappuram district, near Kozhikode (Calicut), Kerala, India.
The airport is located 26 km (16 mi) from the Calicut Railway Station and 27 km (17 mi) from the town of Manjeri, with the closest railway station being at Feroke. It is the 12th busiest airport in India in terms of passenger traffic and 11th in cargo handling.
Calicut Airport is one of the three international airports located in Kerala. Calicut airport was given the status of international airport on February 2, 2006, thereby paving the way for the improvement of the infrastructure there for handling international flights.
The airport was sanctioned after a long period of struggle which began in 1977 under the leadership of freedom fighter K. P. Kesava Menon. Funds were collected from Gulf Malayalis for its development in the 1990s when the Union Government said it did not have funds. To raise the funds needed for airport development, the Malabar International Airport Development Society was formed. Later major developments of facilities, such as extension of runway from 6,000 ft (1,800 m) to 9,000 ft (2,700 m) to facilitate operation of wide-body aircraft were carried out with loans from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO). A user fee was also introduced to pay back the loans.
Since then, facilities at the airport have been greatly increased by the Airports Authority of India. There has also been a steady increase in the volume of passenger traffic from the airport.

KAPPAD BEACH

Vasco da Gama landed here at Kappadu in 1498 on 27 May 1498, Vasco Da Gama landed in Kappad Beach (also known as Kappakkadavu) with three vessels and 170 men. Sixteen km north of Kozhikode by Kannur road, a small road from Tiruvangoor leads to this beach of historical importance. A monument is here to commemorate the historical landing. An ancient temple on a hillock, facing the deep sea, is an added attraction.

BEACH ROAD

The beach at Kozhikode is not yet overdeveloped. It remains a popular retreat for local people. There are two sea piers, almost 125 years old extending well into the sea. There are some nearby parks like the Lions club, and children’s park. It is possible to watch fishermen with their small rowing boats entering the sea, fighting the waves and returning with their daily catch of fish.

Calicut, is a city in the southern Indian state of Kerala. It is the third largest city in Kerala and the headquarters of Kozhikode district. During the Middle Ages, Calicut was often dubbed as the City of Spices because of being the major trading point of eastern spices. Kozhikode was once the capital of an independent kingdom, and later of the erstwhile Malabar District.
Kozhikode has a population of 436,556 as per 2001 census, with an extended metropolitan population of about 0.9 million, making it the third largest urban agglomeration and the third largest city in Kerala. According to data compiled by economics research firm Indicus Analytics on residences, earnings and investments, Kozhikode ranked as the second best city in India to reside in.
